Oasis Hub: Warndon are delighted to have received the largest single grant from Councillor Jill Desayrah.
Our Hub was recently visited by local councillor Jill Desayrah and received a generous donation in order to continue the fantastic work they have been doing for the local community.
Cllr Jill Desayarah said: “I became aware of the amazing work carried out by Oasis a few weeks after being elected. I was especially impressed by the many ways in which the team here supports local people and young families, many of whom are struggling due to the cost-of-living crisis.”
The Covid Recovery Fund was set up a couple of years ago by Worcester City Council and each elected Councillor was given £2000 to spend on community projects, aimed at helping them recover from the Covid lockdowns as well as other social effects of the pandemic.
As a newly elected Councillor for Warndon last May, this year's grant was Cllr Jill Desayrah’s first, and she was able to choose several local initiatives to support. The largest single grant of £750 was donated to Oasis Hub: Warndon.
“I was also incredibly impressed with how the team and the local volunteers support and empower each other to improve their lives. Truly inspiring. I've been delighted to be able to donate some money to help continue this brilliant work.”
“The fact that the Hub is associated with the local Oasis Academy, which has recently been granted an OFSTED rating of "outstanding," is even more to be applauded. Such an achievement.”
The partnership between Cllr Jill Desayrah and Oasis: Hub Warndon, will continue as Oasis Hub: Wardon will be helping to manage the finances of Cllr Jill Desayrah’s regular Saturday Open Door Café at St Wulstan's church, a popular event which caters for up to 50 people from the local community each week, offering residents a warm and friendly space to meet neighbours and enjoy a free meal. This collaboration will also see support for the Soup Project from Oasis Hub: Warndon.
“I hope that we will work together to help promote the services we're offering and to further enhance the local community."
Fay Osborne, Warndon Hub Leader & Regional Cluster Lead for the Midlands, commented: “As a small local charity we are really grateful of the financial support from Cllr Jill Desayrah, but equally of the recognition by elected members who work in the community of which the Community Hub is part.”
“As a Community Hub that includes our Academy and colleagues, we are always inspired by our children and community members who not only volunteer their time to support others but who ignite ideas, help us to grow them and learn from one another in doing so together.”
